BMW M5 - Twin Turbo

May 9, 2008 · Print This Article

The worlds most infamous “Uber-Sedan”, the BMW M5, may be seeing a very untraditional upgrade in its next generation in the form of a lovely set of twins… two turbo-chargers.  Sources speaking to Autocar believe the M5 due out in 2010 will feature not only two turbo-chargers, but also a displacement increase to 5.5 liters from 5.0.  This changes will result in an increase of “at least” 50hp.  Many of these changes are focused to improve emissions as a new start-stop technology while the vehicle is idling is being introduced as well as a regenerative alternator that uses the energy caused by the brakes to reduce load on the engine.  Even with the focus on emissions, many argue that a half liter of displacement and two turbo chargers should result in a much higher power output.  This could very well be the case as some of it’s closest competitors (Mercedes E63) are nearing the 600hp mark.  BMW better be ready to deliver a heavy wallop of horsepower to their new M5 if they expect to keep the title of “Uber-Sedan”.

If you ask me, just give Currency Motors a call, give them $350,000 and let them work their magic. When all is said and done, you’ll have a twin turbo M5 with 810hp, and a car that can have a soccer mom doing 240mph with 3 small children screaming in terror in the back.
