Honda to End S2000 Run

A great Japanese roadster is set to bite the dust at the end of 2009. The S2000 – Honda’s performance roadster – has been in the market since 1999. Initially slated as a limited production vehicle, the S2000 exceeded expectations with continued market demand. Unfortunately, sales figures dropped over the last few years due to the economic crunch.
Earlier runs of the S2000 featured a 2.0L 16-valve engine four-banger that produced . They later on slapped on a 2.2L engine that produced roughly the same power output. The engine was mated to a 6-speed manual and the transmission brought all the power to the rear wheels. This combination made the S2000 a popular car for enthusiasts and road racers.
The S2000 is a sports car designed by enthusiasts for enthusiasts,” said John Mendel, executive vice president of American Honda Motor Co., Inc. “It raised the bar for all future roadsters, and it’s already considered a classic by many Honda fans.

Ibiza ST Wagon Joins Growing Seat Lineup

Seat is adding another model to its ever-expanding vehicle lineup. This time, it’s a wagon variant of its Ibiza supermini. Production of the Seat Ibiza ST wagon has been confirmed by company president Erich Schmitt, and the Spanish automaker should start assembling the new model sometime in 2010.
The Ibiza ST range should be the same as that of the standard hatch version, with 80- and 90-horsepower diesel engines along with a trio of petrol power plants with a range-topping 102-hp among them.
Along with its compatriots, the Ibiza ST wagon will sport full entertainment and electronics features. These include MP3 and Bluetooth functionality for the central console and an optional navigation system. The Exeo ST’s solar-powered sunroof ventilation system is also being considered for the Ibiza ST.
Seat has been giving announcements for new models left and right, but this new addition should provide a good alternative for the brand’s best-selling car.

Ssangyong to Offer Five-Year Warranty for 3 Models

As an incentive for UK buyers, Korean car manufacturer Ssangyong will be offering a warranty good for 5 years or 250,000 miles, whichever comes first, on 3 of its models: the Kyron, the Rexton, and the Rodius.
The new warranty plans result after some market testing in Northern Ireland. There is already a 5-year extended warranty plan in place, which covers free car service for 5 years or 50,000. However, this warranty plan is only available to people who buy a Ssangyong car until the last day of June.
“We know that Ssangyongs are well-made and solidly reliable,” said Paul Williams, the managing director of Koelliker UK, which imports the Ssangyong vehicles.
Well, if it can’t readily sell the product’s innate features, Ssangyong has at least managed to put something in place that would give their buyers a good guarantee of quality and service. Chevrolet Corvette Sports Package

Oh what will GM do to save itself. In an effort to make the Corvette even more attractive to prospective buyers, Chevrolet comes up with a Sports Package for the Z51 and Z06 models of the Corvette.
The ‘Vettes come with a choice between a 6.2L LS3 and 7.0L LS7 engines that already deliver a lot of ponies. However, as a solution to the age-old criticism that American muscle is only good for going on straight lines, the Sports Package features tuned suspension with stiffer springs, reworked dampers, limited slip diff and better brakes. Cosmetic additions are also thrown in for good measure.
Well, you have to admit that if you want a performance car that’s way cheaper than Euro and Japanese makes, the Corvette is still worth a look.
RTEV Whips Up the Wheego Whip

Wheego Electric Cars, a division of electric vehicle manufacturer RTEV, is taking advantage of the “perfect storm of macro events” (according to the Wheego mission) to launch its dealership network in the United States. The first car they will try selling to the North American consumers? The Wheego Whip.
Jeff Boyd, president of Wheego Electric Cars, state that there are already applications coming in prior to the car’s May release, mostly from dealers who carry major brands along with niche electric cars. Wheego is looking to establish a 50-dealer network that will allow it to market the Whip (and maybe RTEV’s recreational EV brand Ruff & Tuff in the future) to an American consumer base that is increasingly going green.
Wheego is the street EV arm of RTEV, which is known as one of the leading companies that use the most advanced technology on their EVs to set them apart from those of other brands.
Gas prices have gone down a bit since last year’s big hikes. Even so, Wheego might still crack the US market given it finds enough willing dealers and gives the Whip enough exposure to get it noticed over the other green cars popping up.

HAMMAN Tycoon 2009 BMW X6

More tuning goodness for today. If you’re not satisfied with the condition the cars are in as they roll out of the factory, then you can always look at tuned versions for that it-goes-up-to-eleven punch. Take this HAMMAN-tuned BMW X6 dubbed as the Tycoon.
The stock X6 is supposed to be a crossover but with all the body stylings and the performance upgrades done on it, it sure looks like more of a road warrior vehicle more than anything else. Enough to intimidate zippy sports cars on the onset. It has got skirts, large air intakes and diffuser up front, and rear spoilers at the back – all of which help in the M6 Tycoon’s aerodynamics.
The car packs a whallop under the hood with the performance kit being adaptable to the choice engines of the X6. The X6 xDrive35i is tuned to get 360 hp and 540 Nm of torque. This allows the car to a top speed of 170mph. If you have an X6 that runs on diesel, the xDrive30d gets a total output of 320 hp. The four tailpipes make for a good roar.
