True Volt Prototypes Scheduled by June

General Motors has confirmed that it will be building actual Volt prototypes starting June 1, ushering in a new stage of testing that will culminate in the hands-on trial of a fleet of Volts prior to launch.
Until now, the Volt hasn’t been actually tested. Only the Volt’s powertrain system has seen real action, mounted on hacked Chevrolet Cruzes. This is a step up in the “phases leading up to the production launch,” as described by GM Voltec powertrain manager Greg Ceisel. Next year, GM employees will be able to get their hands on the 100-Volt fleet as the testing reaches the next level.
GM said that the prototypes will be strictly inspected for finish, details, and quality at every stage of the production process. “The prototypes will look, taste, smell and feel like the Volt,” said Volt chief engineer Andrew Farah. “They are the Volt.”

2009 Chevrolet Corvette GT1 Championship Edition

The Chevrolet Corvette GT1 racing team has one of the best trophy cases in the American Le Mans Series. That is why the company will be producing a limited edition Corvette called the GT1 Championship Edition, featuring custom livery just like that of the Corvette C6.R racing car.
The cars will be in Black or Velocity Yellow colors, along with decals inspired by the C6.R. Each will also sport chrome wheels, ZR1-ish spoilers, ebony leather for the interiors (with yellow stitching), and GT1 marks on the seats, central armrest, and the instrument panel. There will also be a carbon pattern engine cover and a stylish Corvette banner across the upper windshield.
The GT1 Championship Edition will be available for a range of Corvettes, including the coupe version, convertible variant, and the Corvette Z06. There will only be 600 of the GT1 Championship Editions cars, and each will be numbered accordingly.
The Chevrolet Corvette C6.R has dominated the American Le Mans Series and has proven very competitive in the Le Mans Series, 24 Hours of Le Mans, and the FIA GT Championship. With the GT1 Championship Edition, you won’t really get a ride worthy of those circuits, but at least it’s dressed up like one.

Geneva 2009: New Chevrolet Spark Unveiled

Attendees at the 2009 Geneva Motor Show were treated to an early unveiling of the new Chevrolet Spark city car, intended for release sometime in early 2010 for European consumers and late 2011 for the United States market.
The new Spark features updated styling, with edgier and expressive design elements particularly for the front fascia. The designs for the headlights, grille, and front underside are more aggressive than the predecessor’s. It will be practically the same size as the old version. The second row doors’ handles are cleverly concealed somewhere in the C-pillar.
Chevrolet is reportedly considering using a 1.0-liter, 66-horsepower engine as an upgrade over the current Spark’s 0.8-liter engine. Fuel efficiency is still at the core of the vehicle’s intentions, and this is complemented by adequate space for the interior. Innovative display and console designs were influenced by a variety of sources like electronics and motorcycles.
Exact figures for mileage and CO2 emissions are still unavailable since the powertrain isn’t finalized yet, but we expect the Chevrolet Spark to have solid numbers. The car has a good following in Europe, and it’s not hard to expect the same thing of the new model.
