The Dodge Viper run is nearing its end and to give it one final hurrah, Dodge has decided to make 50 Dodge Viper SRT10s specially dubbed as the Final Edition.

The 50 units will be distributed among 20 coupe versions, 18 roadsters and 12 America Club Racers. Aside from the structural differences, the cars will be powered by the massive 8.4L V10 that dishes out 592 bhp and 560 lb-ft of torque.

Given that power, the Viper is pegged to sprint to 60 mph from standstill in less than 4 seconds and go all the way past 200 mph.

Dodge and Chrysler have been planning a Viper replacement that’s set to come out by 2012 and no word yet on whether the replacement will bear the Viper name.

Dodge has yet found a way to make the Viper even more menacing (as far as American sports cars go). If you think that the Viper SRT10 ACR’s the meanest it can get, Dodge has taken the car and made it even more track-worthy with the ACR-X.

The ACR-X gets an additional 40 hp from it’s original 600 (thanks to new headers and a revised exhaust system) and shed 160 more pounds. Added racing bits include an aero package, racing-spec roll cage and racing seats.

One can only sepculate for now how much faster it will be taking on the Nurburgring especially since the old ACR has the unofficial fastest laptime around the ‘Ring. Dodge claims that the ACR-X is 3 seconds faster around Laguna Seca Raceway than the standard ACX.

Chrysler has just submitted three proposals to the US Department of Energy, in which the company outlined its $448-million plan that would bring its electric vehicle and hybrid vehicles to the market fast.

The proposals are in line with two of the DOE’s recent initiatives, namely the Electric Drive Vehicle Battery and Component Manufacturing Initiative and the Transportation Electrification Initiative. With these initiatives, the DOE will be shouldering half of the cost outlined in the plans—that means $224 million will be from the government’s coffers, with Chrysler spending the other $224 million. Of course, the plans would still have to be approved.

Both the initiatives foster the creation of EVs and hybrids, from the development stages up to production. Chrysler will use the potential funds to create a fleet of plug-in hybrids and EVs along with a new-vehicle electrification technology and manufacturing center in Michigan.

Chrysler says that, if approved, the center could be operational as early as next year and will have the capacity to turn out around 20,000 units annually.

Dodge will be replacing the Challenger SE’s aging four-speed automatic with a new five-speed auto, and the automaker will also be releasing a new “Rallye” edition to coincide with the transmission update.

The Rallye will be based off the SE’s base model and will combine the five-speed with a 3.5-liter V6, allowing for better acceleration and reduced fuel consumption figures. The improved responsiveness and a better first-gear ratio anchors the Rallye’s performance. The V6 pushes the car with some 250 horsepower at 250 lb.–ft. of torque. Fuel economy is also improved, up to 17mpg in city traffic and 25mpg in highway traffic.

The Rallye also borrows some high-end features from other Challengers, including its custom bonnet, 18-inch black-highlighted alloy wheels, chrome fuel lid, faux-carbon trims, and racing stripes.

Production of the Dodge Challenger SE Rallye edition will start in the coming weeks at the Chrysler Brampton plant in Canada. With the promise of improved performance, better efficiency and fuel economy, and a sweet-looking exterior, Dodge is giving its Challenger line a much-needed update.
