New Zealand's Hulme CanAm to Take on Caparo T1
January 3, 2009
Smaller nations do get their chances once in a while in the world of motoring. Ironically, for a country that produced a legend such as Bruce McLaren and Denny Hulme, New Zealand only has one supercar manufacturer and fortunately, it’s named after Hulme. Good thing they’re earning some buzz by taking on the Brits with their Caparo T1 rival – the Hulme CanAm.
The CanAm packs a Ferrari-shaming 600bhp generated from an American 7.0L V8, the same one found in the Corvette Z06. That much power takes the CanAm from 0-62 in less than 3 seconds and can reach a top speed of 198 mph.
The car’s designed by 68-year-old Jock Freemantle and has been fiddled with for the past 8 years. Performance-wise, they claim it can give the super-scary Caparo T1 a run for its money. But with the Caparo’s reputation as a killer, then I hope their car doesn’t intend to match that too.
