Infiniti M Sports Blind-Spot Warning System

February 21, 2010

2011 Infiniti M

Nissan’s pretty quiet recently ever since the 370Z (and its many variants) came out. Good thing its luxury brand counterpart is coming up with something new.

Meet the new Infiniti M which sports a variant of Nissan’s rear-wheel drive FR platform (which it shares with the 370Z). The M is powered by a choice of V6 engines including a 3.0L diesel co-developed with Renault and the 3.7L V6. A 5.6L direct-injection V8 dishing out 420 horsepower and 417 lb-ft of torque will top the engine range.

Infiniti’s going green as well with a hybrid powertrain thrown in to the mix where the older 3.5L V6 will be mated with an electric motor and configured to work with a 7-speed automatic gearbox.

A piece of interesting tech that the car will pack is a blind-spot warning system to aid the driver in preventing them from sideswiping car and getting swideswiped. Pretty nifty bit of tech.

The 2011 Infiniti M will be priced starting at $46,250.

Inifiniti M Unveiled

Infiniti M

The BMW 5 Series gets yet another competitor in the 2010 Infiniti M. It might not be a real looker, but for those looking for badge alternatives, then the M would be an option.

Infiniti’s 3.7L V6 which dishes out 316 bhp remains to be the car’s gasoline engine option. The car is also set to feature a new V6 diesel engine that will surely be an attractive option for the European market. A gasoline-hybrid configuration is said to be coming by 2011

Tech highlights of the car include Blind Spot Intevention which takes over steering when shifting into lanes currently occupied by cars in your blind spot region and an Active Noise Control system which would play sound waves through speakers that wouid cancel out unpleasant noises.

As a kicker, the car also features a Forest Air system that would create “gentle breezes and subtle scents” of the forest to relieve stress. Let’s just hope that the forest smell would not include vermin turd or rotting undergrowth scents.

Now these are the features you won’t expect a German automaker to make.

Infiniti to be All-Hybrid Brand within a Decade

January 4, 2009

Infiniti, Nissan’s luxury car division, is styling itself as a brand that is socially responsible. In line with this, the company will be launching its first hybrid car next year with the intention of making all Infiniti vehicles hybrids within 10 years.

That is what Francois Bancon, Infiniti’s advanced product planning chief, said. Well, to be exact, he said that within ten years, each Infiniti car will have a hybrid powertrain option in parallel to its standard configuration. Infiniti’s first hybrid will be released next year, in the form of the new M saloon, which has a petrol-electric hybrid powertrain. The recently unveiled Infiniti Essence previewed at the Geneva Motor Show also has a hybrid option.

Infiniti will also be releasing hybrid options for their new G entry-level sedan and the FX mid-size luxury car. Production versions of these hybrids could be released as early as next year, following the release of the M.

This is certainly a big step for Infiniti, and we should see other brands in the luxury segment follow closely on this example.
