BMW Gunning for Lexus US Sales Rank

After facing a global sales drop (and most automakers did suffer from that), German automaker BMW is setting its sights on Lexus as the top luxury brand in the US.
Lexus, Japanese automaker Toyota’s luxury brand, has always been at the top of the sales boards in the US for the past 9 years. However, BMW has made quite the push and is just around 2,000 units behind this year.
“We’re really breathing down Lexus’ neck,” said Jim O’Donnell, CEO of BMW Group’s North American sales.
The US auto market took a huge beating due to the recession. The year saw two of the Detroit Three (General Motors and Chrysler) go belly up. Still, BMW sees a possible improvement in luxury car sales as the economy improves.

2010 Lexus IS-F Gets New Tech as Standard

Many presume Lexus, as Toyota’s luxury brand, carries as much tech as its European counterparts. Not quite. The Lexus IS-F, for example, requires you to shell out more dough for tech that had become standard to other cars.
At least Lexus finally had the sense of improving the base car by slotting in several tech as standard. The 2010 production version of the IS-F will feature limited slip differentials, and foldable rear headrests, and a new 19-inch wheel design.
For other luxuries, the 2010 IS-F will pack Lexus’ Premium Sound System that includes digital wizardry like iPod/USB connectivity, Bluetooth, and XM satellite radio. Lexus also improved the satnav system by slapping on a casual-language voice recognition.
Powering the car is a 5.0L V8 engine that is mated to a an 8-speed Sport Direct Shift transmission. The engine dishes out 416 hp and a max torque of 371 lb-ft. These make the IS-F a fast four-door.
The 2010 IS-F will start at a base MSRP of $56,760.
Toyota President to Race Lexus GT500 at Nurburgring

Toyota President Akio Toyoda will be at the driver’s seat of the new Lexus GT500 prototype when the 24 Hours Nurburgring runs on May 23 through 24. The car, also referred to sometimes as the Lexus LF-A, will be running in the race for the second time.
Toyoda banners the four-man driver lineup for the GT500 sports car. He had previously been at the wheel of the car for the Toyota Motorsports Festival back in November, which was held at Fuji Speedway. He drove the car for 2 laps around the track.
The LF-A prototype first saw action at the Nurburgring 4 hour VLN endurance race, winning the SP8 class. The car had a decent showing at last year’s 24 Hours Nurburgring, but lagged behind the times of other cars such as a Dodge Viper.
The car runs on a 4.8-liter V10 that gives it power of over 500 horsepower.
The LF-A has been one of those cars that aren’t deemed fit for production because of the recession. But its continued race participation shows hope for the future. 2010 Lexus RX350 Details and Pricing

Lexus has recently announced the pricing of its updated luxury crossover vehicle, the 2010 RX350, along with spec details on the CUV. The RX350 is expected to reach dealers sometime this month.
The 2010 RX350 has a manufacturer’s suggested retail price of $36,800 for the standard front-wheel drive model, while the all-wheel drive variant fetches an MSRP of $38,200. The vehicle features a six-speed automatic transmission with Multi-Mode shifting. It has a 3.5-liter V6 that produces 275 horsepower at 6,200 rpm with 256 lb.-ft. of torque.
The AWD model comes with a new technology called the Active Torque Control AWD System, which varies torque distribution to suit different driving conditions. There’s also a handling technology called the Vehicle Dynamics Integrated Management, which oversees all the other handling systems in the car, including ABS, vehicle stability control, traction control, and brake assist. There’s also Adaptive Front-Lighting System and an optional Pre-Collision System with Dynamic Radar Cruise Control.
Loaded with the latest tech and a boosted powertrain, the 2010 Lexus RX350 really stamps its class on the luxury crossover segment. It’s like they took this car to the Allspark [of Transformers lore], what with all the advanced systems in it. But being a Lexus, we can just hope it’d be fun to drive.

Lexus Expands F Sport Performance Accessory Line

In Spring of 2008, Lexus launched the F Sport Performance accessory line for its entry-level luxury sports sedans, the IS 350 and IS 250. Now, Toyota’s luxury car brand is expanding the line with accessories for the GS luxury sport sedan, IS AWD, and IS Convertible Coupe.
The expansion covers performance accessories such as alloy wheels and upgrades on intake, brake and suspension systems. Each performance part is made with premium-quality materials, branded with the F Sport badge, and engineered by Toyota Racing Development for Lexus USA.
“F-Sport Accessories offer Lexus owners the ability to customize their vehicles to the next level of performance,” said Lexus national manager of marketing and lifecycle strategy Brian Bolain. “Following last year’s successful launch of accessories for the IS 250 and 350 sport sedans, it was natural to expand the F-Sport accessories lineup to other Lexus performance models.”
Additionally, F Sport accessories come with either a 12-month warranty, or the duration of the new-car warranty if that’s greater. So, for those who want to spice up their Lexus, this is a great and exclusive way to do it.
