Toyota of Australia to Debut Hybrid Camry Concept
January 23, 2009
Toyota will be producing the Camry Hybrid in Australia, and in preparation for this, the company’s Australian arm will be showcasing the Hybrid Camry Concept Vehicle, or HC-CV, at the Melbourne Motor Show this coming Friday.
Even though the name sounds quite exciting, the HC-CV only figures to be an update to the existing Camry Hybrid that started North American sales back in 2006. Of course, Toyota of Australia won’t settle for a mere copy, so expect some redesigned elements, upgraded features, and improved interior furnishing.
A “strong pointer”—that’s what Toyota says of the HC-CV when asked how it will stack up to the final production version of the Australian Camry Hybrid. The production model will start assembly in early 2010, at Toyota’s Altona plant in Victoria.
Toyota will be displaying the HC-CV alongside the 2010 Prius and its 1/X plug-in hybrid concept car, which was originally revealed at the 2007 Tokyo Motor Show.

Toyota Design Boss Hints at Future Designs
January 20, 2009
Wahei Hirai, head honcho of Toyota design, gave some of his insights regarding what the future holds for the company’s future models. He stressed “free-form geometrics,” smart design for the exterior and capitalizing on key elements in order to get the most efficiency out of every design.
The best examples of this philosophy are the 2010 Toyota Prius and the 2010 Lexus HS 250h, two of the company’s highly-touted dedicated hybrids. The design boss stated the importance of bringing great design to such an icon as the Prius. “Prius is a showcase. We can try many design cues here first,” said Hirai in an interview. “This has to be symbolic.”
The Prius is, in many aspects, the embodiment of Toyota’s free-form geometry idea, one that seeks a harmony between organic and geometric design elements to achieve an overall pleasing automobile design. A combination of smooth lines and interrelated curves make the design free-flowing.
With such a high regard for this philosophy, Hirai hinted that it could be applied to a wider range of Toyota cars.love song for bobby long a divx movie online

Toyota to Test Plug-In Hybrid Fleet
January 18, 2009
Toyota will be leasing 150 models of its new Prius-based next-generation plug-in hybrid vehicle later in 2009, with a select group of European fleet customers expected to take the cars on everyday real-world situations.
Near the end of 2009, Toyota will be trialing the fleet starting in France. Toyota will then bring the lithium-ion battery-powered hybrids across more of Europe by the middle of 2010, with testing to be held in the United Kingdom, Germany, and the Netherlands.
“We want to get as much real-world data from these tests as possible,” said a Toyota spokesman in a statement. “For example, is the current range of 10km (6.2 miles) on electric power enough for a city-based commute?”
The next-gen plug-in hybrids can reach a top speed of 62 mph on electric power. Additionally, fuel efficiency is expected to be somewhere around 40 percent better than the current Prius. Of course, the only drawback to the whole thing is that there are no immediate plans to bring the plug-in hybrid into production yet.
Toyota Posts Worst Loss
January 11, 2009
Japanese automaker Toyota recorded a 436.94 billion yen loss for the year up to March 31, easily the company’s worst loss ever. The car giant pointed to poor US and European sales figures, continually-rising costs of the raw materials needed in production, and the strong showing of the yen as some of the key contributors to the loss.
The president of Toyota, Katsuaki Watanabe, admits that revenue and profits “declined severely” within the year. The loss was a staggering turnaround to the previous year, which saw Toyota making a record profit. Toyota only sold 7.57 million units, some 1.34 million down from last year’s sales.
He added that the company is bracing for more losses. “It appears it will take some more time before the financial markets in the US and Europe normalise and the global economy recovers.” The company is expecting some 550 billion yen in net losses when the fiscal year ends in March 2010.
As Toyota continues to struggle with these losses, cutting off costs seems like a really good idea right now. Many fear that the company could even cease its Formula 1 participation next year, despite a strong showing so far this season.
