Word has it that Jaguar’s next incarnation of the XK sports car will feature a V6 diesel variant. The 3.0L V6 will dish out nearly 300 bhp thus positioning it to compete with other sporty diesels like the BMW 635d.

The V6 will be made of lightweight aluminum alloy and will have a turbo slapped on. The one advantage Jaguar sees in the diesel (aside from its supposed “economy”) is the amount of torque it can dish out. The car might just give other sports cars a thrashing with its acceleration.

The concept of the XK will also feature a new design grille that (sadly) replaces the Spitfire wing shape. While Jag fans would probably not like the move, Jag says that the new grille looks better with the new styling and would probably appeal better in the international market.

Jaguar will be unleashing the new XJ sedan this spring and everyone’s expecting them to put out a sportier coupe version to slug it out with the Mercedes CL-Class and the Bentley Continental GT. But just like every other automaker out there, it seems like Jaguar will disappoint in that regard.

However, to appease everyone’s clamor for a sportier car, Jaguar will instead be working on a smaller C-Type cabrio which is expected to compete with the likes of the BMW Z4 and the Mercedes SLK.

No word yet on what will power the car but that sweet 5.0L V8 might just be too heavy, too powerful and too expensive for a car expected to compete with a Z4. Jag wouldn’t want to overdo it for a car supposedly on the cheaper end of the scale. A turbocharged V6 would most likely be an option.

Like the XK, the C-Type is expected to be pack an aluminium monocoque.

The car is set to be a 2012 model.

You might have encountered news about the modified Jaguar XFR that blitzed the Bonneville salt flats. Now that was a modded car done jointly with a tuning house but Jaguar has now set its sights on a 503 hp car that’s slated to be called the XE.

It’s most likely that the car will be based on the R Coupe (pictured) concept that Jag unveiled a while back and there’s no reason not sourcing the supercharged 5L engine that was used in the XFR. For hardcore Jag fans this might spell the resurrection of the XJ220 that made its name way back in the early 90s that can still put the Zondas and Koenigseggs to shame with its 220 mph top speed.

This may yet be the comeback of the proper British supercar but we’ll all have to hold our breath until we can actually see this car built. As you should know, Jag’s now owned by Indian automaker Tata, who, along with the rest of automakers, are suffering from the economic crunch.

As the car starts to accelerate, the kinetic energy stored in the flywheel discharges and boosts the power of the car. This allows for far-greater energy efficiency compared to vehicles without such a system in place.

Regenerative braking systems such as this IVT-flywheel mechanism and F1’s KERS are largely seen as great ways to achieve high energy efficiency and to provide additional environment-friendly mechanisms on vehicles.

The development was given a financial nudge when Allison, a large US-based transmission company, recently sealed a licensing deal with Torotrak, which got some much-needed cash from the agreement. While the system is still some ways off from completion, it would no doubt be a welcome addition to vehicles.

The planned performance driver academy is part of a bigger plan to make something like a Jaguar World, similar to the Mercedes-Benz World. The big goal is to make Jaguar’s cars, particularly the higher-spec ones like the R variants, accessible to a wider audience.

Entry to the sessions in the academy will be free for owners of the new XFR and XKR models, but the training won’t be exclusive. Owners of other performance cars will be allowed to try out the academy, but with a fee. It would cost them something below £400 daily.

Of course, economic constraints should prevent the R Performance Academy from seeing the light of day until such time the industry, or Jaguar Land Rover in particular, sees significant recovery and return of profitability. The planned academy is said to cost around £5 million.
