KTM Halts X-Bow Production
August 26, 2009
The KTM X-Bow is pretty much a toy for them big boys. It’s not really something you buy to drive on a daily basis. It’s a car built for the weekends on the track. It’s priced to be afforded by bankers and IT guys who make just enough to splurge on some cool pieces of machinery.
However, given the financial crunch, it seems that not many from this market segment is willing to throw away money for a car that can only be used on weekends. Perhaps even track days come few and far and between for these guys.
KTM hasn’t been selling many X-Bows that they’ve decided to halt production of this extreme car. KTM planned to make 1,000 of these babies a year but was only able to churn out 500 units. Out of the 500, KTM only sold 80.
That’s quite sad since there’s much to be liked about the car. The turbocharged 2.0L engine slapped on a super lightweight frame makes this car a potent track weapon with a power-to-weight ratio of around 330 per metric ton.
