Ferrari 599 GTO Configurator

April 12, 2010

We always like configurators especially since we don’t have the hundreds of thousands of dollars to buy ourselves Ferraris and McLarens. So configurators gives us a virtual taste of customizing our “own” supercars.

With the unveiling of the 599 GTO, Ferrari has deemed it fitting to make a configurator online as well. The 599 GTO’s configurator has the same features found in previous Ferrari configurators.

The configurator allows users to tweak the exterior (with paint colors and paint setups) and the interior (seats and consoles customizable with leather and Alcantara bits).

You can also take a snapshot of one setup, build another one and compare the two settings.

Ferrari 599 GTO Unveiled

April 11, 2010

Ferrari has teased us long enough with the Ferrari 599 GTO. At last, they’ve unveiled it for everyone to see. Check out the fastest ever road going car to come out of Maranello.

The 599 GTO is powered by a 6L V12 that dishes out 661 bhp and 457 lb-ft of torque. The engine is mated to a six-speed transmission that, combined with Ferrari’s electronic wizardry, shifts in 60 milliseconds. The powertrain enables the car to go from 0-60 mph in 3.4 seconds and go all the way up to 208 mph.

Aside from the power, aerodynamics gets part of the credit with the car’s ability to generate 144 kg of downforce at 120 mph thanks to the new nose, front spoiler and lower wing. The also uses lightweight materials to give the car a power-to-weight-ratio of 448 bhp/ton.

The car packs Ferrari’s latest driver aid systems and, combined with the tuned cassis, Ferrari claims the the car has “the almost complete absence of understeer.” Fancy that.

Aston Martin Rapide Racer

April 8, 2010

Aston will be racing in the 24 Hours of Nurburgring this year and since one of their new cars need the additional hype, they decided to build a race-ready version of one of them.

Thank goodness, it’s not the Aston Martin Cygnet/Rich Man’s Toyota iQ. They wil be racing with a race-ready Aston Martin Rapide.

The Rapide is Aston’s take on the concept of a speedy four-door to rival the likes of the Porsche Panamera and the Maserati Quattroporte.

Aston has used souped up racers before in such events. The Rapide, however, will only sport a few safety and suspension modifications plus slick tires. Aside from those, the car will be nearly standard trim.

The Rapider racer will be driven by Aston Martin chief Dr. Ulrich Bez and Aston engineers.

Polestar Teases High-Performance Volvo C30

April 4, 2010

Volvo might already be sold to Chinese company Geely but that doesn’t mean that existing partnerships should dissolve that quick.

Volvo has been collaborating with racing group Polestar Performance for quite a while now and Polestar’s proud to announce that they will be coming up with a ‘roid-upped version of the C30 with the C30 Performance concept.

Details are still scarce but Polestar claims that the C30 has a more than capable sporty hot hatch platform. So far, the car is set to get 395 hp and four wheel drive.

We can also expect that the car would pack a tuned sports suspension package. The silhouette of the teaser image hints of larger wheels and aero bits.

McLaren MP4-12C Configurator

April 1, 2010

Since McLaren doesn’t have any other production road car available, the can pretty much dedicate their whole website just pimping the MP4-12C.

Thanks to the Internet and its new-fangled levels of interactivity, a configurator allows anyone visiting their site to customize the MP4-12C even if the person’s not buying. (Who has hundreds of thousands of dollars simply lying around anyway?)

The configurator allows visitors to customize the exterior styling, wheels and brakes, the interior, the entertainment system, safety and security features, and even slap on the “practical” stuff like battery chargers, and ashtrays. McLaren’s got pretty much everything covered really.

Check out the MP4-12C configurator.
