The Volkswagen (Passat) CC R-Line has been made available for the European market and VW execs are mulling offering the exclusive trim level to the US market.

(The Passat CC’s known only as the CC in the US market.)

The CC R-Line gets additional bling in the form of eithe ra 17-inch or 18-inch R-Line alloy wheels, foglamps, a front spoiler, side skirts and R-Line badges.

Inside, the CC R-Line gets aluminum tread plates, a leather-trimmed steering wheel with buttons to toggle the car’s electronics, and a Park Pilot system.

Volkswagen says that it will be announcing its decision on a US offering come the Detroit show. But if you’d ask us, this might as well be a teaser for a CC R-Line in the Detroit stands next month.

This here’s the Volkswagen E-Up! Concept – the company’s contribution to the slew of zero-emission vehicles that are flooding our gearhead consciousness.

Volkswagen calls it the “Beetle of the 21st Century” – a label which is actually a bit confusing. Will it be mechanically as awful or will it be as popular and be able to endure decades?

The E-Up! Concept’s basically a 3+1 small car. Power comes from an electric motor that dishes out 80 hp and a max torque of 155 lb-ft. It’s actually more powerful than other EVs like the Hyundai’s electric i10 but that power only allows the car to go from 0 to 62 mph in 11.3 seconds.

Still a concern for electric vehicles is the charging time and range. The car can be plugged into a standard 230V socket. Full charging is achieved in 5 hours. If you’re in a hurry, you can charge it up to 80% in an hour. A full charge allows you to cover 50 km of road before considering a return trip since it can only go for 100 km.

When Porsche was still flying solo (and orchestrating a takeover of Volkswagen) they were quite all for the exclusivity of their tech but with Volkswagen absorbing the business, VW can pretty much do what they want with Porsche.

VW intends to have Porsche on developing sports cars thus announcing the end of the Cayenne SUV and Panamera. Currently, VW has the Lamborghini Estoque (a much better looking car) to fill the market segment for fast four-doors to compete with the likes of the Aston Martin Rapide and the Maserati Quattroporte.

Still, if the Panamera platform will be used, Bentley, Bugatti and Audi are the most likely recipients.

Volkswagen announced that there will be no space for the Cayenne SUV and the four-door Panamera in VW’s fleet once Porsche’s business is officially absorbed.

I guess this is a good move product-wise. I agree with VW officials in asserting that the company doesn’t need to build SUVs and saloons. Volkswagen currently has those market segments covered. And Volkswagen never made them that ugly.

So this just means that Porsche will be concentrating on building sports cars.

The GTI Mk6 already packs quite the punch for its size with 208 bhp but Abt decided to squeeze out more from the 2.0L engine. Instead of bolting on turbo or superchargers, the power upgrade comes from a tuned ECU and a modified exhaust system.

To help the car cope with power around corners, the car is lowered by 30mm and new springs and brakes are also slapped on to the car.

As for cosmetic tweaks the car four-pipe exhaust, LED lights, deeper Ant bumpers, and a rear spoiler. For added bling, buyers can choose from 18-inch or 19-inch Abt alloy wheels. Inside, a stylized instrument panel with red accents can be found together with assorted bits and pieces of sporty trim.

For those not content with the power output, they can avail of another package that boost the power all the way up to 296 bhp.

“Volkswagen will consistently expand its successful ‘BlueMotionTechnologies’. Hybrids and electric vehicles will play an increasingly important role, of course,” said VW research and development boss Dr. Ulrich Hackenberg. “Particularly for the Chinese market, potential partners such as BYD could support us in quickly expanding our activities.”

The deal pushed through after BYD executives visited the Elektrotraktion Technology Center and VW’s Wolfsburg test facilities. BlueMotion technology is already the mark of the most efficient model in every VW range. BlueMotion was also most recently implemented in non-diesel form on the upcoming Touareg hybrid, whereas previous iterations were all implemented on diesels.

The deal could pave the way for hybrid and/or electric vehicle technology to be available for some of Volkswagen’s more mainstream BlueMotion models. The enhanced body kit sports a new body-colored front splitter underneath the front bumper. There’re also some new blistered wheel arches on top of the R Line’s own 19-inch multi-spoke alloy wheels. The new rear bumper also has a diffuser and a spoiler. A new flat-bottomed multi-function steering wheel is accompanied by two-zone climate control and contoured sports seats emblazoned with the R Line logo.

Buyers can choose from a couple of 2.0-liter TDI diesels (138bhp and 168bhp) and a 2.0-liter 197bhp TSI engine for the R Line’s powertrain.

The new Volkswagen Tiguan R Line is set to start sales in June, adding to an already diverse range offered for the Tiguan compact SUV. There’s no boost in power for this variant, but if you’re after the body kit and the extra features, the R Line should be worth a look.delta farce dvdrip
